چکیده

By the preparation of specific type sera 24 types of streptococci within group D are designated on the basis of agglutination tests. Subtypes associated with three of these types are indicated by reciprocal absorption. Precipitin tests with absorbed sera substantiate the division of types by agglutination. Of 353 strains of streptococci identified serologically as group D and further specified by physiological characters, 281 were typed by slide agglutination ; the remaining 72 did not fall into any of the 24 types. Whilst there is no absolute correlation between serological type and physiological characteristics, a broad division can be made between Streptococcus faecalis and its varieties on the one hand and Strep. durans, Strep. bovis and various unclassified strains on the other.

Tyramine-producing streptococci in neonatal diarrhoea.

An outbreak of neonatal diarrhoea associated with large numbers of Streptococcus faecalis var. zymogenes is described.A follow-up survey showed that 23.3% of 347 healthy babies carried this organism without ill effect. The tyrosine decarboxylase activity of the streptococci from both sick and healthy babies was identically high. It is suggested that the tyramine-producing activity of these stre...

Modified method for serological identification of group B streptococci.

Extracts from 10- and 40-ml cultures compared favorably for serological identification of group B streptococci. Typing by gel diffusion proved reliable and efficient. These modifications save time, media, and antisera.

International external quality assurance for laboratory identification and typing of Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B streptococci).

We report the results from the first international multicenter external quality assessment (EQA) studies for molecular and serological typing of group B streptococcus (GBS) strains as part of DEVANI (Design of a Vaccine against Neonatal Infections), a pan-European program. A questionnaire-based surveillance was undertaken among eight laboratories participating in DEVANI and six laboratories not...

Microbiological, pathological and histological findings in four Danish pig herds affected by a new neonatal diarrhoea syndrome

BACKGROUND Neonatal diarrhoea is a frequent clinical condition in commercial swine herds, previously regarded to be uncomplicated to treat. However, since 2008 it seems that a new neonatal diarrhoeic syndrome unresponsive to antibiotics and common management practices has emerged. Routine laboratory examinations have not detected any pathogen related to this syndrome. The primary purpose of thi...

The Serological Typing of Hemolytic Streptococci

The relationships among the hemolytic streptococci have been greatly clarified by the fundamental work of Lancefield (1). She has shown that these organisms may be classified into groups on the basis of a precipitin reaction and ample evidence has accumulated (2, 3) to show that almost all human infections are caused by members of her Group A. Strains of the groups from B to K are responsible f...
